PathoCERT PROJECT

Developing emergency response technologies for detecting and managing waterborne pathogen contamination events

During emergency response operations, first responders are at risk of being exposed to dangerous pathogens (such as norovirus, e. coli and v. cholerae) through skin contact, ingestion or inhalation. These pathogens pose a significant risk of illness, disease or even death. Currently, there are very few available field-validated technologies to assist first responders when having to operate within an environment with such dangerous pathogens.

SEARCH & RESCUE PROJECT

Both man-made and natural disasters such as earthquakes and terrorist attacks can result in people being trapped under debris and collapsed structures. In these critical situations, a timely and effective response is crucial and can prevent or significantly reduce the number of casualties. This is why First responders and rescue teams need to be equipped with cutting edge tools and specialised instrumentations in order to enhance their capabilities, namely in terms of accuracy, quick localization, and reduction of false alarms.

CURSOR PROJECT

The CURSOR project is a new European research initiative that will develop a CURSOR Search and Rescue Kit using soft miniaturised robotic equipment, drones, and advanced sensors reducing time for detection and rescue of victims trapped under debris while increasing the personal safety of the SaR teams. The project started on September 1st 2019 and will run until August 2022. It is led by the German Federal Relief Agency (THW) and works closely together with First Responders to meet their needs.

INTREPID PROJECT

INTREPID (Intelligent Toolkit for Reconnaissance and assessmEnt in Perilous InciDents) started in October 2020. The EU-funded INTREPID project aims to help first responders by providing a platform that will improve the 3D exploration and analysis of disaster zones. This platform will be based on intelligence amplification and extended reality concepts, with smart cybernetic assistants as well as innovative deep indoor networking and positioning capabilities. Thanks to this platform, first responders will be able to immediately start operations without having to wait for specialised teams or for the zone to be fully secured.

ASSISTANCE PROJECT

ASSISTANCE proposes a holistic solution capable of offering different configuration modes for providing the tailored information outcome needed by each FR organization. With this solution, ASSISTANCE will enhance the FRs SA during their mitigation activities through the integration of new paradigms, tools and technologies (e.g. drones/robots equipped with different sensors, robust communications capabilities, etc.) with the main objective of increasing both their protection and their efficiency.
