Wildfires, floodings, earthquakes and man-made incidents are striking Europe on a regular basis. These crises are often unforeseen and elicit a complex response mechanism, involving different categories of first responders such as firemen, police, medical operation teams and volunteers. The participation of such heterogeneous groups with specific operational procedures and chain of command, poses real challenges in terms of coordinating actions and getting a clear overview of the emergency response.
The RESPOND-A project intends to address this challenge and maximize situational awareness by providing a Clear Operational Picture and the optimal management of operations against disasters of any scale and complexity. To do so RESPOND-A will boost First responders operational capabilities in terms of Early Assessment, Safety Assessment, Risk Mitigation and Crisis Management Capabilities. To achieve this, RESPOND-A will harness the latest available technological innovations in the field including 4G/5G mission critical networks and applications, Augmented Reality technologies, UAVs, drones and robots as well as Smart equipment and wearables.

The 1st RESPOND-A training took place on 10-11 December 2020. A summary of what happened (participants, scenario, solutions tested) is available in the form of an e-poster available here.
While this training was restricted to the RESPOND-A consortium, the project’s partners plan to also include external practitioners in the upcoming editions, so stay tuned!
